Enrolment requirements
PLEASE READ THIS PAGE CARFULLY & FULLY BEFORE COMMNECING ENROLMENT IN THE GUILD
Don't panic if you are not able to provide any of the following for any of the levels. The Guild are here to help you develop your knowledge, skills and abilities, not to criticize, or chastise, it's about showing and proving competency and improvement of personal and professional abilities .
The Guild reserve the right alter, add, change or adjust enrolment and advancement requirements.
Guild Enrolment
Enrolment into The Guild requires the submission of several documents and audits that show you have the required competence. Links are provided for more information.
This page explains what is required to apply for membership to The Guild.
There are three registration levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold.
To apply for Bronze, the initial level, you must provide the following for verification:

Surveying qualification certificate*

Non-licensed asbestos refresher training certificate*, supplied by a recognised training body

Face Fit Test certificate for suitable RPE (FFP3/Ori-Nasal/Full Face respirator)

Up-to-date CV
-
This must include information on experience of asbestos surveying

The CV must also be accompanied by two trade references. Referees will be contacted.

Head and shoulder photograph (for display on your Guild competence listing)

Evidence of adequate insurance

If you are unsure on what insurance is required, contact us.

Hazardous/Special waste disposal licence
-
Where no such licence is held, evidence of hazardous waste disposal procedures will be required, e.g. a contract with and licensed contractor who undertakes the waste disposal activities on your behalf.

Payment of enrolment invoice∞
Registration will not commence until all the required documents/information are submitted and have been verified. Registration will only be to Bronze level after all information for enrolment submitted has been verified.
Where verification of any submitted document cannot be undertaken, due to third party delays, the applicant may be required to submit additional supporting information.
Delays attributed to verification issues, outside of the control of The Guild are not the responsibility of The Guild.
Notes
*If you gained your surveying qualification more than 12 months ago, you must also provide evidence of attendance at an annual refresher training course (non-licensed asbestos work). Asbestos Awareness training alone is not acceptable. As a minimum, you must complete annual non-licensed asbestos training that meets the requirements of Regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR 2012).
∞The invoice for enrolment will be issued at the point of application, the cost of enrolment into The Guild is £250.00 until 31st August 2026, after which the cost of enrolment returns to £350.00.
Advancement to Silver
Having been registered at the Bronze level, is is expected that advancement to the next, Silver level will be attained within 12 months.
BE ADVISED! There is a cost for the following documents to be verified. You will be advised on the cost, and your consent required prior to verification being undertaken.
Verification costs of documents are based on the length, complexity and content of the submitted documents.
To advance to Silver, members will be require to submit for review and audit, the following:

A written, detailed Desk Top Study (DTS) undertaken for an asbestos survey.

The Plan of Work and Risk Assessment for the survey detailed in the submitted DTS
-
The completed asbestos survey report for the premises detailed in the DTS, this MUST include at least one positive asbestos result proven via inclusion of the UKAS analytical report in the survey.

The submitted survey MUST conform to the requirements for an asbestos survey report as detailed in HSG264
-
Membership in The Guild will be listed based on the level of survey submitted, e.g., Asbestos Management, Refurbishment or Demolition and the type of premises surveyed, e.g. Domestic, Commercial, Industrial. This listing can be upgrade on submission of a higher level report. (see "Registered Members" for more information)

Evidence of the disposal of the hazardous waste generated while undertaking the survey detailed in the DTS, e.g. a completed Hazardous Waste Consignment Note.

Hazardous waste would include used PPE, RPE/filters, wipes, drop-sheet/s etc.

Where evidence cannot be presented for waste disposal, a statement confirming why this was not undertaken.

Evidence of additional safety training such as:

Working at heights - PASMA - IPAF
-
Lone working
-
Confined Spaces
-
Any other training undertaken to demonstrate knowledge of safety procedures

Where required due to expiry, copies of renewed training, insurance, certification etc.

Members will be advised on renewal dates.

Advancement to Gold
Having been registered at the Silver level, is is expected that advancement to the next, Gold level will be attained within 12 months.
The level can be advance sooner if required.

To advance to Gold, members will be require to observe the following:

An audit of you undertaking an asbestos survey.

This can be any level of survey, although the level will dictate the category of membership, See "Registered members" for more detail.

The applicant must also present for audit and review their Quality Management System (QMS) conforming to ISO 90021 as a minimum.

The re-submission of in-date documents where their previous submissions have expired, e.g. insurance, training, fit tests, etc.
Maintaining membership
All registered surveyors are require to maintain their membership of The Guild.
Annual renewal requires the following:

The sub mission for audit, 5% of their annual asbestos surveys.
OR
-
An independent audit undertaken of at least 5% of their annual asbestos surveys carried out.

Payment of the annual membership fee. This is set at £295.00 per year, payable before expiry of current membership.

Guild rules

It is expected that members will advance through each level within 12 months of attaining current levels, although a shorter advancement period is possible.

Members are expected to conduct themselves in such as a manner as befits membership of The Guild and are subject to the "Conditions of Membership" they are also required to engage with The Guild in matters arising from mis-conduct and assist in matters arising from complaints.

The Guild reserves the right to suspend, reduce membership levels and reduce categories of membership and where deemed appropriate to remove members at its discretion.

All fees paid, once agreed are non-refundable and are not subject to reduction or discount unless The Guild deem such actions appropriate.
The Guild was formed and exists to promote best practice, raise standards and improve the asbestos surveying industry. Membership is subject to terms, conditions and ethical standards.
No person has a right of membership.
