The Asbestos Surveyors Guild Ltd

What is the ASG?

The Asbestos Surveyors Guild was founded with a clear mission: to standardise and professionalise the asbestos surveying industry across the United Kingdom. For decades, asbestos has posed one of the most significant health risks in the built environment, and accurate, reliable surveying is the cornerstone of effective management and removal. Yet, the industry has long faced challenges—fragmented practices, inconsistent training, and varying levels of competency—that compromise safety and compliance.

The Guild exists to address these gaps by setting uniform standards, promoting best practices, and ensuring that every surveyor operates with the highest level of technical expertise and ethical responsibility. Through rigorous accreditation, continuous professional development, and a commitment to transparency, we aim to build trust among clients, contractors, and regulators alike.

By fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing, the Asbestos Surveyors Guild is not just raising the bar—it is creating a culture of excellence that protects lives, safeguards property, and upholds the integrity of the profession. Together, we are shaping a future where asbestos risks are managed with precision, accountability, confidence and integrity.

Who is behind it?

The Asbestos Surveyors Guild has been set up by Paul Beaumont, an asbestos training provider, consultant, CEO of the IATP, former director of marketing (non-exec.) UKATA with experience of the asbestos industry spanning over 4 decades.

Assistance in forming The Guild has also been provided by and with the support of many asbestos industry and health and safety professionals.

A word from the founder

"For many years, there have been several attempts to professionalise, standardise and improve the surveying sector of the asbestos industry.

Until now, nothing firm has been achieved. Many talks have been had, even a suggestion of making surveying a UKAS mandatory requirement, many have suggested doing something, but nothing has been done, the time of procrastination is over, the Guild is here to make a difference."

Not-for-Profit

The Asbestos Surveyors Guild (“The Guild”) operates strictly as a not‑for‑profit organisation dedicated to raising standards, promoting competency, and supporting best practice within the asbestos surveying and management profession.

As a not‑for‑profit entity, the Guild’s financial structure is designed to ensure that:

  1. All income received—whether through membership fees, training, events, or other activities  is reinvested directly into the Guild’s core objectives, including professional development, industry guidance, member resources, and initiatives that enhance public safety and awareness.

  2. The Guild does not distribute profits to directors, officers, committee members, or any individuals. All funds are used solely to advance the Guild’s mission and provide value to its members and the wider community. Directors do not draw salaries or receive dividends.

  3. The time invested in The Guilds' running and administration by directors, admin. staff etc. will be compensated at a rate agreed and inline with current industry recognised pay scales.

    • All requests for payments will only be approved on agreement by the governing council and only after submission of an "Application for Payment" request.

  4. At the end of each financial year, The Guild will assess its accounts and determine whether a financial surplus exists.

    • Any annual excess funds will be donated to recognised charities supporting individuals and communities affected by asbestos exposure, asbestos‑related diseases, and associated health and welfare challenges.

    • Beneficiary charities may include organisations focused on research, treatment support, family assistance, awareness campaigns, or memorial initiatives related to asbestos‑related conditions.

  5. The Guild is committed to financial transparency and accountability, publishing an annual financial summary that outlines income, expenditure, and the value of charitable donations made from surplus funds.

Through this model, The Asbestos Surveyors Guild ensures that its activities not only support professional excellence within the asbestos surveying sector but also directly contribute to improving the lives of those impacted by asbestos exposure. Our members can be confident that their participation and fees help uphold the highest standards in the profession while also making a meaningful charitable impact each year.
